Indonesia Enhances Financial Capacity for Infrastructure Development through Intensive Discussions with German Institutions

In efforts to learn more about the policies, concepts, and implementation of development financing, especially in infrastructure development, Mr. Suharso Monoarfa, Member of the Indonesian Presidential Council, along with his delegation, has conducted meetings the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) or Jerman Development Bank (26 March 2018) and the Frankfurt School of
Finance and Management (27 March 2018) in Frankfurt, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering (28 March 2018) in Stuttgart. The fruitful and intensive discussions with the threeGerman institutions provided valuable inputs for Indonesia’s efforts to enhance financial capacity for infrastructure development. The ongoing good relations between Indonesia and KfW will be further improved, especially through KfW’s support for the exploration and exploitation of geothermal resources, as well as cooperation with PT SMI. Discussions with the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management explored the possibility to conduct a collaborative research project about Indonesia’s financial policies, with a focus on funding infrastructure projects that will involve academicians and academic institutions from both countries. Meanwhile, the meeting with Fraunhofer opened the opportunity for Indonesia’s cities to be involved with the Morgenstadt
initiatve, or “City of the Future”, in striving for smart, clean, and sustainable cities. In addition to financing infrastructure development, the Indonesian Delegation also discussed the transition to use more renewable energy, as well as the development of Industry 4.0. The meetings were facilitated by the Indonesian Consulate General in Frankfurt.
