With the support from the Indonesian Consulate General in Frankfurt, an Indonesian Sales Mission on Tourism in promoting Bali and other regions of Indonesia was held on 13 March 2018 in Frankfurt. The event which has conducted by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism, in cooperation with the Bali Regional Tourism Promotion Agency, and Visit Indonesia Tourism Office (VITO) in Germany, was a success in bringing together 11 tourism industries from Indonesia with 32 business people from 14 travel agents and tour operators based in Frankfurt and its surroundings.
The event was filled with high enthusiasm from German travel agents and tour operators in making various travel packages with their Indonesian counterparts. The event was also enlivened with a door prize and concluded with a working dinner. Prior to Frankfurt, a similar Indonesian Sales Mission was also held in Munich on 12 March 2018.
In his opening remarks, the Acting Consul General conveyed his optimism that the Sales Mission will effectively enhance cooperation between Indonesian tourism industries with German tour agents/tour operators, which will in turn also boost the number of German tourists to Indonesia. He added that from countless interactions with German citizens during various promotional events that have been conducted by the Consulate General, many of them expressed their interest in visiting Indonesia.
The business-to-business (B2B) event, which took form of a seminar and networking session, was positively welcomed by the German tourism industry. They also highly appreciated the information provided by the Consulate General regarding the Indonesian Government’s policies aimed to increase the number of German tourist to Indonesia, such as the visa free policy, active promotional campaigns through advertisements, participation in various international exhibitions, and familiarization trip.
The Indonesian Government has set a target of 20 million foreign tourist arrivals by the year 2019. Statistics from the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism show that the number of German tourists visiting Indonesia continues to increase in the last few years, reaching 260.586 people in 2017, compared to 231.000 in 2016, 201.202 in 2015, 184.463 in 2014, and 173.470 in 2013.
